CHARACTER AND FEELVieux Montreal effectively corresponds in its borders with the
old (walled) city circa 1750.
Although most buildings were demolished and rebuilt in the 19th
century as the city's rapid growth was making it the economic and
finanical capital of Canada, the area still retains its
"historic" character. In the later part of the 20th century,
Vieux Montreal (Old Montreal)
has become a major tourist attraction.
APARTMENTS & REAL ESTATEApartment buildings in Vieux Montreal are scarce and most condos
qualify as "luxury" residences (with condo
prices often approaching and even exceeding $1M).

LIVING IN THIS NEIGHBOURHOODAlthough the situation is changing rapidly,
the earthly conveniences are still relatively
rare in Old Montreal.
With the exception of a few depanneurs and
Beniamino's grocery store on Rue McGill (just above
de la Commune), there are practically no grocery shopping options
in the area. The closest supermarket (IGA) is on Blvd René-Lévesque.
The neighbourhood also lacks self-service laundromats, so
it is imperative to be able to wash your clothes at home
(although, if you have the money, there's no shortage of
various delivery and valet services). Othewise,
you'll find yourself on a 30-minute hike north with a laundry bag.
