LOCATIONQuartier International is defined as the northwestern "edge" of Vieux Montreal. The area's southern border is Rue St-Jacques (beyond which lies Vieux Montreal). The western border is rue University where you can see the sculpture featuring a multitude of flags. The northern border is Ave Viger and/or rue De La Gauchetière. To the east, the border is Blvd St-Urbain. CHARACTER AND FEELLe Quartier International was conceived partly to revitalize the area around Vieux Montreal which was not developing as fast as the city would have liked. Although it's a relatively new moniker, both the name and the idea it represents (a mixture of office and high-end residential spaces) seem to have taken hold. The "feel" of the neighbourhood is quite different from both Downtown (Centre-Ville) and Old Montreal (Vieux Montreal), it has its own architectural landmarks (Tour de la Bourse, Square Victoria, Palais des Congrès) and is developing rapidly. With that said, many people find the neighbourhood too modern and "sterile" to even be called a genuine neighborhod. The presence of a convention center and several large hotels (with more on the way) doesn't exactly help dispel this impression. APARTMENTS & REAL ESTATEThere aren't that many residential buildings in the area, but during 2006-2007 several large-scale residential buildings (e.g. Mosaïque Southam and 1009 de Bleury) were completed.
