The newly defined Quartier des Spectacles is the area between Rue de Bleury and Rue St-Denis (east-west), and between Blvd de Maisonneuve and Blvd René-Lévesque (north-south). The logical centre of this area is the corner of Rue St-Laurent and Rue St-Catherine.

The area is home to a number of Montreal's theaters, bars and clubs, totalling about 30,000 seats. There is some residual seediness (probably carried over from the Prohibition Era), but the area is currently (2012) undergoing vigorous (some say, ruthless) revitalization. Rundown buildings get torn down and replaced with shiny glass-and-metal boxes.
