Quartier des Spectacles

LOCATION

Central Montreal. The newly defined Quartier des Spectacles is the area between Rue de Bleury and Rue St-Denis (east-west), between Blvd de Maisonneuve and Blvd René-Lévesque (north-south). The "nerve center" is the corner of St-Laurent and St-Catherine streets.

CHARACTER AND FEEL

The area is home to a number of Montreal's theaters, bars and clubs, totalling 28,000 "seats". There is some residual seediness (probably carried over from the Prohibition Era) which makes it look a bit like NYC's Bowery circa 1990.
