Just for your information

It is totally illegal in the province of Qu├ębec to ask for a security deposit. The only thing they can ask for is to pay a month in advance your rent, and this at the signature of your lease.

If you need more information about this, you can look for information at this site

"When the lease is signed, the landlord may require the tenant to make the first rent payment and even make that a condition for signing the lease. However, the landlord cannot require more than that, for example, a deposit for the keys to the dwelling or as a safeguard against damage the tenant may cause. " source:

I hope it answers your question

I came across a similar add last year... this person began pushing and pushing for me to send money (I did not provide him with any info) and I suggested he get a real estate representative to represent him on this end, if it is indeed a legitimate rental. This way I could be shown the apartment, be given the keys once I signed the lease. After I started pushing back the guy high-tailed it out of my emails and I reported him to on-line crimes.

Be very aware!
